Back to school soon, we have got some great tips on lunch ideas, but we haven’t yet touched on crazy sandwich ideas! What is a crazy sandwich? A normal one but with a crazy twist to make your little one eat it!
You could make normal ham sandwiches, but use a cookie cutter to make crazy shapes! Smiley faces, gingerbread man, stars – the list is endless!
If your child isn’t too fussy, why not try some crazy combinations! Apple and mayonnaise, anyone? Peanut butter and jam is really popular in the US – why not try it as a Friday treat?
How about a club sandwich! You can mix up the usual ingredients to your child’s taste, but if you use three pieces of bread then they will be amazed at their double decker sandwich.
Why use bread? Mix it up with bagels, wraps, or pitta bread. Spread a wrap with cream cheese, add some fillings like ham or smoked salmon. Roll it up then slice it into circles. Wrap it tightly in clingfilm and your child will have some exciting pinwheels to eat for their lunch.
You can also freeze sandwiches. If all this sounds like a bit of a hassle when you’ve got to get ready for school and work, why not freeze them? Spend an hour on a Sunday doing all the prep for the week, then freeze them in containers or bags. Take the right amount out the night before and it makes the day a lot easier!
Likewise you can chop veg or fruit on a Sunday and store it in air tight containers in the fridge. They will often keep for longer than you would think. I always hull strawberries as soon as I get them, then slice the top off and put them in an airtight container. They keep for much longer than if they were in their supermarket packet.
