Lets consider this. Do we want our children to play online games? No, is the first answer that comes up. However – if children are properly supervised, they can have great fun playing kids online games.
Some safety precautions have to be carried out first of all. You need to make sure you have proper parental software on your laptop or PC. This needs to be checked before you allow your child on to it. Do some trial searches! However, you shouldn’t leave your young child alone playing games anyway. Make sure they are in the same room as you, and you look over their shoulder every so often. Even better, team up with them and play the games together.
I wouldn’t suggest that video games such as X-Box and Playstation are suitable for online games for young children. There is too much risk that other people on the network could swear or say inappropriate things, however much you police the age restriction level.
Why not consider a web platform that give you great access to lots of online games, without having to download anything. Plays.org is one such platform, and they have some fantastic cartoon and educational games. There is no risk of your child chatting to anyone else, and even better, they will learn while having fun!
We have spent the weekend testing out lots of games on the site and have some favourites. Children just love characters that they see on TV every day. We played a great Ben 10 game which was actually pretty tricky! Our 6 year old was better than me! We felt it was fun but also had just enough bits of educational content in there too.
For the little girls out there, they have lots of Barbie games. It was so lovely to see Barbie and her many themes played with like this, with a true traditional computer game feel.
Retro alert – what about Dennis and Gnasher?
I have spent an embarrassingly long amount of time collecting newspapers and crashing into bins and black oily puddles. Its a really great game for complete relaxation as you are so focussed on the next newspaper you literally can’t think of anything else!!
Online games for children really are worthwhile, as long as you keep them safe. Make sure they understand your rules. Don’t let them go on any other websites, and make sure you are supervising. Other than that – enjoy! If you are looking for more activities, check here.
